The Union of the Comoros is an island country located off of the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean. Comoros is made up of three volcanic islands and some coral atolls.

Ngazidja, also known as Grand Comore is the largest of the three volcanic islands.

Nzwani, or Anjouan is the next largest.

Mwali, also called Mohéli, is the smallest of the three.

Overall, the Comoros has an area of 719 square miles (1,862 square kilometers).

It is a mountainous country. The soil is not very fertile.

The capital of the Comoros is Moroni.

676,000 people live in Comoros.

98% are Muslim, mostly Sunni Muslim, and 1% are Roman Catholic.

Official languages are Comoran, Arabic and French

Most of the people depend on subsistence farming.

There are few natural resources.

Major exports are cloves, vanilla and ylang-ylang.

The country is heavily dependent on remittances from workers abroad.

The Comoros has a presidential system of government.

The Comoros franc, which equals 100 centimes, is the official currency.
