The Niger River begins in the Fouta Djallon highlands and runs through Guinea before entering Mali. The Niger, which is 2,600 miles (481 kilometers) long, then runs through Niger, Benin and Nigeria before it finally reaches the Gulf of Guinea.
The river system of the upper Niger drains savanna plains in eastern Guinea.
There are hills in southeastern Guinea.
Guinea has a tropical climate. The coast receives a large amount of rainfall.
