There are many exciting events and activities that you can take advantage of during a trip to Spain.

In July, you can witness the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona – or, if you are brave enough, you can run from the bulls yourself.

The Running of the Bulls takes place during the Fiesta de San Fermin, the patron saint of Pamplona.

In fact, every town in Spain has a patron saint and a local fiesta to honour him or her. A fiesta will include parades and parties, as well as religious activities.

Every May, Lleida has a snail festival, where you can eat snails and enjoy many other delicious foods as well.

If you visit Spain during holy week, you can see the many plays, or take part in other activities, that commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Week is especially important in Spain, where about 90% of the population are Roman Catholic

Cataluña, Aragon, Malaga and Torremolinos all have winter resorts where you can go skiing or engage in other winter sports. If you go in the late spring, you can enjoy some time at the beaches there during the afternoon.

If you like football, you can watch the Primera Liga live, and see football stars like Zidane, Raul, Ronaldo, Figo, Roberto Carlos and David Beckham playing for Real Madrid.

Is art your thing?

Picasso’s Guernica is on display at the Reina Sofia. Malaga is the home of the Picasso foundation.

The Prada Gallery in Madrid houses the works of Diego Velazquez, which include “The Rokeby Venus” and “Old Woman Cooking Eggs”.

Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has a unique structure – with tiles that resemble fish scales - and contains many interesting pieces of contemporary art.

Barcelona is home to some of the architectural masterpieces of Antoni Gaudi.

Or you can just relax in some of Spain’s many cafés.
