There have been economic problems in Macedonia as a result of conflicts in the area. The country is using foreign loans and foreign aid to help modernize the country and develop the economy.

Macedonia has a mixed presidential-parliamentary system of government.

The official currency of Macedonia is the Macedonian denar, which is equal to 100 deni.
