Antigua and Barbuda is a country in the Leeward Islands, in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It consists of the islands of Antigua and Barbuda and many smaller islands, including Redonda, which is an uninhabited rocky volcanic island.

The country has an area of 171 square miles (442 square kilometers).

Antigua is the largest island.

Most of the island of Antigua consists of hilly scrubland.

There are many beaches, which are very popular with tourists.

The capital of Antigua and Barbuda is St. John's on Antigua.

88,000 people live in in Antigua and Barbuda, most of them on Antigua.

95% of the people are black.

English is the official language. Antiguan Creole is also spoken.

87% of the people are Protestant, 10% are Roman Catholic and 1% are Rastafarian.

Tourism is the predominant source of income.

Antigua and Barbuda has a parliamentary system of government. It is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar, which is made up of 100 cents.
